My urban bike looking good with the Arclight pedals.

Let there be light!

Safety is never too much, specially when you have to share the roads with SUVs, trucks, cars, pedestrians and drivers scrolling through social media on their cellphones. Let's face it: wheteher you're a commuter or just a casual rider, you probably have your own story of not been seen and collected a few scares out there. The folks at Redshift are riders and know how important it is to get home to our friends and family and, of course, also with our bikes and bones in one piece - thank you! Light plays a key role in visibility, so let there be more of it, and i smarter, safer ways!

As their name gives out, the motion of the pedals creates arcs of light more visible than linear lights.

7 highlights

As I pedalled my way through the city the pedals immediately attracted the attention of other cyclists even though it wasn't so dark outside. I also noticed how a mother pushing a stroller and looking at her phone was coming in my direction and, without looking up, adjusted her way after seeing the pedals. Also a driver coming out of a parking lot saw me and stopped way before I was actually close to him.

The tech

Right out of the box I noticed that these pedals and lights are pretty rugged. I admit that prior to having them I imagined they could be a bit fiddly. After a few potholes, bounces to the bike (in the name of science, I promise!) I was impressed with the strength of the magnets that hold the lights in place. I stopped to think about how much thought is into this product and what a package of useful technology they are.

My final impressions

All in all the pedals do exactly what they say they do. I’ve been catching a lot of attention from other cyclists and people in cars. I’ve let them turned on to check battery life and do a little shake on the bike so they activate from time to time (keep my nice classic urban inside the house), battery lasts very long! Quite impressive!

The surface is wide enough and the pegs hold the foot in place quite nicely!

The pedals are a bit on the heavy side, or at least feel a bit heavy. Nothing that bothers. I figure most riders will wear them on bikes they use for various purposes and perhaps not as much on specific race bikes. I've been thinking of having them on my Randonneur bike as well specially in darker months, we'll see. I still think they look awesome on my retro urban bike.

The pedals get dirty as with all pedals, and I was curious to see whether sand or very small gravel would get in the way of the lights and interfere with sliding them on and off - they don't. Tight and nice!

My personal opinion is that these, as with your other Redshift products, is another game changer! They’re bright, have great battery life, and the possibilities of being creative with the lights (having them on other places on the bike or backpack) are endless!!

Ride on! Let your light shine!
